"...to identify and study angels, we must first have a clear definition of what angels are."
1 Angelic Ambiguity

This section argues that angels are in need of (1) a concrete definition, and (2) specific descriptions unavailable through existing explanations. The lack of these are what I call, "Angelic Ambiguity," and this Naked Angel Project is designed to eradicate it.

1.1 The Importance Of Definitions

"To solve a problem, you must first know what the problem is." This expression is identified as the first step in every problem-solving process. I propose that this expression applies to angels as well, in that to identify and study angels, we must first have a clear definition of what angels are.

Now if you ask any group of people on the street what an angel is, you'll undoubtedly get many different answers. Some will say a spirit; some will say a shining light; while others will say a loving feeling, or, a comforting event (among any indeterminate number of other things). However, if you ask the same group what a turtle is, you will get a most definitive reply: "A turtle is an aquatic and land reptile having a bony shell and flipper-like limbs for swimming." The difference between these two responses is one of sheer truth. People are able to define a turtle because turtles have been labeled, observed, and documented (read defined) in every dictionary and encyclopedia we have today. Without being able to concretely define what an angel is using these types of references, we are left with a mere word whose meaning cannot be determined from its context.

1.2 Biased Interpretation

Suffering the consequence of being largely unobserved and documented, angels are vulnerable to descriptions based on opinion, rather than fact. And because opinions are beliefs that are unquestionably shaped by personal preferences, the population has traditionally described angels from biased interpretation. I assert that an explanation based on self-serving persuasion will not satisfy the objective mind - hungry for labeled, observed, and documented facts about angels.

1.3 Separation Vs Unity

Just like with any other subject, biased interpretation breeds separatism. Applied to the study of angels, I've coined this bias interpretation: "Angelicism." Similar to racism, "angelicism" is the prejudice that members holding one particular interpretation are superior to members holding another interpretation. This, I have indeed witnessed in discussion about angels in churches, group settings, and Usenet newsgroups. If we could gain labeled, observed, and documented factual knowledge and acceptance of angels, the concept of "angelicism" would disappear.

1.4 Brewing Even More Ambiguity

When managed steps are not taken to create a (verifiable) definition, each unfounded interpretation becomes vulnerable to even more interpretation. I can not think of a single study that is appropriate for this kind of dissipation. This potential for ambiguous growth must be nipped in the bud, and a process for acquiring angelic labeled, observed, and documented knowledge must be put forth, tested, improved, and followed.

1.5 Angelic Ambiguity Vs The Naked Angel Project

The Naked Angel Project will attempt to eradicate Angelic Ambiguity through the scientific method. It will attempt to answer the question, "Do Naked Angels exist, and if so, what is their nature?" To answer this question, the Naked Angel Project will be used as an experimental program, and depending upon the results, confirmation via visual records (artwork).
